Hi Guys,

Time for a new helmet , mine is dropping to bits !!!

After the discussions about goggles fogging up, i think ive decided to try one of the full face off road hemets. iv'e seen Outlander wearing one and io think they look good.

Has anyone else got any experiance/opinions with these ? Specific recommendations would be nice.

Cheers

Catman.

The only problem with mine is it's not easy to wear glasses with it on. My Arai road helmet has nice cutouts so your glasses slide down behind your ears. If you don't wear glasses it' s not a problem, very nice helmet otherwise. Had it on for 2 full days in Wales and was very comfy.

It is an AIROH S4. Think it was £99 and I got it at the Towcester show on a stall so don't know who they were.

I bought an Arai tour x + dark visor at the NEC bike show, and ive got to say, i think its the best fitting helmet ive ever worn!! Its comfortable, the air vents all seem to work, the whole of the lining/cheek pads are removable and seem to refit back in the correct places.

Arai is by far the best henlment you can buy. I have had loads helments for both the quad and the motorbike over the years, still have many of them.

I use a Shoei Multitec on the bike, I like being able to lift the lid up without having to take it off everytime, great at petrol stations, stopping for a ciggy etc etc.

I use a Nitro Moto X helmet most of the time on the quad and sometimes a Shoei Syncrotec. I have thought about buying an Arai Tour

But I have had feedback on visor scratching issues and then 40/50 notes to replace it each time, not sure but deffo a nice helmet (not cheap).

I would say that those of you lucky enough to not wear every bit of mud you ride through courtesey of your utility style quad can get away with these "hybrid" style lids but for sports quads,as mentioned, the scratching issue will be a big problem as you tend to wipe your visor/goggles many times per hr when off road.

Thats what I was thinking great lid but recked In minutes Plus visor do steam up.
Saying that guess you could just take the visor off and where goggles, plus you know you got a great piece of kit to help save your head.

steaming up is not a problem as you just use a pinlock system or fogcity. The problem is scratched visors and replacement costs all the time. Sratch it a handfull of times and you could have bought a new helmet!

I am going to get a new crash helmet soon, you guys who use helmets with visors, do you find scratching a problem, as you know I have been using an open face with a visor which has been pretty scratch resistant but the lining has been removed for cleaning so many times that it does not stay in place any more, plus it stinks regardless of washing !
When you buy online, do the shops change the lid if its it the wrong size/fit, I ask this as abour 5 years ago I bought a Bell full face for my bike and wanted a slightly different size, I had not worn it on the bike, just decided on a bigger size when I got home and I had a huge argument with the shop who in the end reluctantly agreed to change it .

I would never buy a lid without trying it on, even from the same manufacturer as a lid you already have.
Wouldn't get one through the post either, knowing how clumsy postman pat can be the lid could have had a few heavy knocks before it even gets on your head.

As for the visors, they should be as strong/scratch resistant as your old visor.

I use Calamine lotion so have no problem with scratching ;)
I had a look in Infinity Motorcycles and my local bike shop but they did not have a lot of choice, there are not many bike shops about so may have to mail order !

There is a shop in Andover that sells the Maurshin helmet for £100 in the chantry centre. I have just come back from the USA with work and oooh my god do they love Quadbikes over there. Anything and everything related to quads and all fairly good prices. Why can't the UK be more like it.
