I want one but have not got any spare dough, have found Memory Map do one for about £350 which is for bikes and is compatible with Memory Map software, plenty of other makes out there, Mitac, Garmin etc, take your pic .
I want one with the OS map on so that if a byway is unusable then it is easy to find a detour .

I have one of them.

Its good if you know how to navigate using pre-programed waypoints. I use a special mount so it fits nicely on the bars. Very tough and weather proof.

However if navigating is not your strong point than i would suggest you get something that uses maps.

I like the idea of using an OS map based system because its ok to use waypoints but what if a byway is unusable when you get to its waypoint, you need to be able to find an alternative route by road which you cannot do on a point to point system .

The memory map is a great tool, it can print up A4 size maps that are just the right size to stuff down your jacket while you are riding, keep them in a plastic sleeve and away you go, cheaper than a £350 sat nav (not as much cred though) LOL

the maps are good for like the odd green laning trip every week, but gps is for the more once every two days green laning person.

then again it depends on a lot of factors as well.

The overriding factor is cost, as you ride lanes more and more locally you get to know them so GPS becomes irrelevant, its when you go exporing that its good .
