I recieved this email today. I have no other information on it. Might even be a con but the website look very genuine.
Intresting link. Please let me know if anyone is intrested.
Dear Sir or Madam,
In the summer of 2008 I am organizing a Quad Trek which covers the whole
of Africa, from top to toe, but avoiding danger areas which have high
military involvement and places of political unrest.
From the journey, around 25%, possibly more, of the proceeds would go to
charities and clubs associated with the trek which ultimately can be
decided by yourselves (if you can help out) and our riders. So if you
have any in mind, please include these.
I am looking for Quad and Off Road Clubs to promote the trek, and if
possible, one person from each club (or more!) enters the trek.
If you are interested in spreading the word in your club, or are
interested yourself, then the following might be of interest to you:
* As a club, you would be entitled to a share of the excess funding
given to charities at the end of the trek. (Currently estimated at
£45,000 to be split)
* You can advertise your club over the individuals quad bikes and
therefore gain coverage on the DVD and if successful, the TV Documentary
too.
* Advertising on our website, and if you are willing to donate some
funds then you could even get exposure on all of the quad bikes at the
event.
* Your logo / club name on all the clothing for the event.
* Details of every penny of expenditure and income for the whole trek,
so you know what your sponsorship/donation money and your riders' money
have been spent on.
If you are interested, need more information, or even just want to chat
about it (we would provide all the literature if required, and could
even do a presentation at your club) then please contact me.
Alternatively if you are not interested at all - then still please let
me know! Any help would be very appreciated.
The website is currently www.quadaroundtheworld.com and official email
address contact@quadaroundtheworld.com.
I look forward to receiving your response. My address is 11 Parsonage
Place, Curry Rivel, Langport, Somerset, TA10 0EW, England, United

Do you want to go to Africa, you nutter, a hell of a long journey, would take ages but would be exciting, just thousands of miles of plains, savannas, deserts, salt lakes, sounds good but i bet its a nightmare, and thats if you dont get shot or eaten by cannibal tribes .

Seen his actual address somewhere in amongst it all.
the other web sites he does both come back with same number so yes it does seem legit.
Would have thought he would have contacted the other forums ?
Would love to do somthting like that but not enough notice on this one, especially as mr taxman want a huge wedge in january :(
What happens if your quad has major failiure though? Do you abandon it ????
Still fancy going to spain via the portsmouth/bilbao ferry and riding up the mountains. now that would be good.

Hey all,
I seen a few visits to the site coming from these forums, and by the looks of it you all seem very concerned with the trek, or my way of marketing it.
Well hopefully I can clear things up...
Yes, the legal full trading name is Azabia Ltd (05257859 in England) - registered on 13/10/2004, for which I (Nathan Croker) am a Director of. Under this is MC ICE and Quad Around The World. If you want my phone number or address, feel free to look at the site or ask. I am more than willing to discuss the trek or my company through any means you want.
To keep costs down I have had to do all the marketing myself, and thus may not seem very professional - and looking back over it - it does cause some concern.
To one of the comments, yes, I contacted most clubs I could find, some being on quad.tv. I thought it would be a good way of getting information across to the club owners to try and spread the word. My apologies if this was not the right approach!
To another comment, I searched for quad bike forums on Google, but couldn't really find any to suite, and weren't too sure on the owners liking 'advertising' on it (although it is not of a commercial nature). So thought I would target the owners first.
With another request, I am happy to extend the deposit deadline until the end of February, or even lower it. It is just to make sure that those who apply to come, are serious about doing it. As it is quite easy for 100 people to fill in the forms, but no one do anything about it! So if anyone is interested, either visit the site for more details or contact me. I will be quite happy to accept some form of deposit to make sure you are serious about doing it.
To a further comment, yes it will take quite a while - I'm estimating it at around 3 months without too much problems. Hence why all the VISA applications, ferry crossings, insurance, embassy contacts etc. is being done beforehand.
Will now also follow from this site to spread the word in other forums. If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, suggestions or even complaints. Either contact me directly, or feel free to carry on this thread - I will keep an eye on it :-)
Hopefully this clears things up.
Regards,
Nathan Croker

No worries.
Just to let everyone know that the date for applications and deposits has been raised to 29th February 2008. Would be nice to get the applications in much before though. So any kind of security/deposit would be considered for those who are serious about it.
*will also rethink his plans for marketing the trek*

It does sound like a very exciting and daunting project and I wish you all the luck in the world with it, it would be ideal for anyone who has no commitments like kids and jobs which get in the way .

Very true and thanks very much :-) Should be a good trek though, still working out a plan on how the filming will work - as it will be on constantly. The whole trek will be going on DVD, for each persons footage, and also as a full length movie (or more...) for the edited version of everyones footage.
Currently 'talking' to the BBC, so hopefully might get something aired too. 3 months of footage times x amount of bikes will be a lot of watching and editing... Ah well, thats only one of the joys anyway!
I'm hoping to get (yeh aiming high) around 50 bikes interested. But if all else fails, and due to security, safety etc. the trek will go ahead with only 10 bikes going. So far with some applications in the pipeline, that target will be met so the trek is definitely a go ahead. Just finalizing all the details and waiting for the go ahead from some countries regarding filming and border crossing etc. Luckily most countries don't require VISAs for British Nationals though, which is ideal.
If anyone can't make it, but still would like to help out - you could either sponsor a rider or make a 'donation' of some sort. Even a 'pledge' of some sort, as no one needs to pay up until everything is finalized. Most likely around the 31st March 2008. Also if anyone has any suggestions of charities that specialize in work in Africa and their funding tends to go to the people more, and not the administration side of things let me know! Doing a fair amount of research on it now to make sure I get the right charities.
First time on doing something like this too, and to cut all costs down, I am doing everything from the website, organizing VISAs, suppliers, sponsors right through to the party at the end. The paperwork is piling up.

Making me hungry now, mmm burgers :-) The trek goes through France and Spain too, down to Tarifa in Spain to cross a 'high speed' ferry into Tangier in Morocco. Got a discounted rate for quad bikes too!

Maybe if I win the lottery I could have 3 months (well actually a lifetime) off work....failing that, I am also with Secret Solo...a trip to Spain and the mountains would be great ...so count me in on that one if anybody fancies organising it in the future.

With some careful thought, a nicely written letter and a few drinks some employers *may* 'sponsor' you in the fact that they pay you for going, some in return for advertising and such.
All depends on who your employer is, how much impact it will have on you leaving for 3 months and such. Bearing in mind 3 months is an estimate, could be more, could be less (very doubtful).
It is a very long trek, but should be an extremely rewarding one. Taking part depends on a lot of factors, as those with several children and a partner may find it a lot more difficult that someone in college or university for example.
*Some* help might be able to offer for those who are worried about the situation at home. Plus there will also be facilities to contact those at home at least once a day (as the website will also be updated with the progress) and there is emergency funding available for those who need to ditch the trek in the middle and head home for some reason.
There may also be ways around it where you can travel to the far south then arrange to be flown home. But there is always the issue of leaving the quad behind...

£12,000, but you do get a new quad fully serviced with spare parts and all docs and paper work needed for trip, it is due to drop, this is just the most it will cost and the prices WILL go down.
