I have an idea for a series of events probably starting next year.
Im am thinking of organising a series of competative quad treasure hunts for BHQTA around our area untilising byways, roads through towns and country ect.
Participents (in teams of 2), would meet up at a defined location and work though a set of clues to variouse checkpoints on a OS map. Start would be time staggard so to avoid teams clashing too much.
The winners would be those who worked through the checkpoints in the quickest time.
It would be a overall test of intelligence, map reading skills, quad reliabily, stamina ect.
The idea would not to be TOO competative. The emphasis would be on having fun.
Many details to sort out. Just wanted to know what you thought of the idea.
That actual scale of the events would depend of course on how many people wanted to take part.

Sounds like a damned good idea to me. As above, keep it low on the intelligence and the map reading and the stamina.

the more i think of it the more i like the idea, just dont put the treasure in places where only 4 wheel drives can go LOL
yes i like it, might get a big group of peeps and makes teams, i can see it now, a `magnificent` trophy with the following etched on
`THE BHQTA CHALLENGE CUP`
if it takes in southern hampshire i want to be in a team with secret solo .
we could make sure each team has a 4x4 in case of `stuckages`.
How about doing it in the lull after xmas

This could be very good, Danny has suggested a treasure hunt that lasts a year or so, with a number of objectives to achieve to win the coveted `BHQTA Challenge Cup`(LOL), obviously it will be nigh on impossible to always get the same group of riders together so we could form small teams to take part as and when they can, there could be a series of clues which occur on rides and when the year ends either the team which achieves all the objectives or has the highest points total are the champions and could recieve the cup at a site xmas dinner event, there could be for example, one objective for every two months, this would also allow time for larger group rides in between, there could be a nightime ride objective too, this has got me very enthusiastic and if anyone has any input please post it and we can organise it .
How many in a team and would they be based in the same location, who would Quadgirl want to team up with, maybe a nice team like Warrior and I LOL .
This event will really spice things up on here, imagine the competition, oh yeah, I am writing the clues LOLOL .
Bring it on

Just thinking about this, members seem to be in three distinct areas,ie , North, Middle and South which could mean three teams .
The clues could be set so that there are two objectives per area which gives 6 to allow one clue per two month peroid .
The members of each team could set the objectives in their own area and the objectives pooled together to form the target, obviously this would give each team two objectives to start with buy hey, its two rides to do, this would relieve one person of the responsibilty of doing all the objectives and give all a fair challenge .
The objectives could be done on rides which can be arranged by the groups themselves .
Two months should give a long enough time to achieve each objective-I would hope .
Riders should mention any preferences of type of ride to avoid teams making the objectives unachievable or unneccessarily dangerous !, ie, including the devils steps or 10 foot deep rivers LOL .
All objectives must have places which do bacon sarnies .
These are just suggestions to get the ball rolling .

Ive done a bit of digging around on this and i think its feasible. Ill be working on the plan over the next few months so that we can have the 2008 Berkshire and Hants Quad trails treasure hunt championship. It will also involve a bit of Geocaching. 4 or 5 events over the year.
A lot of work will have to go into this so we need a big participation to make it worth it. My initial thoughts are that anyone who has a Quad OR solos and is a registered members of the site can participate rather than just make it a club members only event.
Id like to have a mimimum of 10 teams of 2, a lot more would be nice. There may be a team fee to help pay for any costs, but not sure yet.
Please put any ideas/suggestions/opinions on this thread.
Could be a exciting 2008.

Geocaching, W T F are you on about LOL
You seem keen on making it a nationwide event where we travel hundreds of miles to find a clue, unless geocaching means teleporting your quad to Leeds or Bristol or Northumbria LOL .
I was thinking about keeping it local because of the distance/time factor, i dont have time to drive to meet Wellzy in Northumbria to hunt for a clue, no offence to Wellzy, just an example .
In my humble opinion it would be better to keep the whole thing simple and localised in order to keep people interested and allow plenty of time for each objective so us mugs with families can fit it in with our hectic lives, others outside the area would be very welcome to join in on the local rides /hunts, if the groups/teams are localised and set their objectives relative to their areas then it will give ownership to each team member and promote a feeling of taking part, as I said this is just my opinion, as boss you have the right to disagree LOL .

Dont know where you get that idea from RP.
It will DEFINIATLEY be LOCAL i.e Berkshire and Hants (funnily enough)
:brick:
However, if people want to take part from anywhere, if they prepared to turn up and enter they would be welcome .
Look up geocaching on the internet.

Objectivies will be set by a group of willing volenteers and me ! No one who takes part can also be responsible for setting it up.
The 'team' of volenteers is in hand. There people who love setting these things up. Might need one more volenteer from within BHQTA but still considereing it.

Ok, lets have some more details on the event, the biggest problem will be getting everybody together on the event days, I can see problems there based on previous group rides where we expected 6 or 7 and got 3 riders, there is always something else to do
Not sure about the event being timed either, could lead to people getting peed off and frustrated, mainly impatient types like myself :frusty:
Will give it a fair listening to .

I've been reading your posts with interest.
Thought it about time I give my 2 pence worth of input ...all sounds good. Only thing from my perspective ...bearing in mind i'm a being a beginner and have rolled the damm quad already .....is that timing the event (however mych I try not to) will make me want to go faster and therefore introduce more risk than i'd perhaps like.
Apart from that ...sounds like fun.

Im putting a FAQ together about it which will answer many questions. In
It is NOT a race. You can be the quickest and loose by miles. Its all about completing the waypoints and objectives. You need to have a method of deciding a winner in the event that everyone completes ALL objectives and the only way to do that is by time.

plenty taken!! LOL:D:rofl: no prob rp
i think we should base the teams on a type of quad situation, so at least one utility quad per team to make it fair, i think the best way to do this would be to time it and award points to the time with the quickest time but also the most productive team should be something that gets marked and also the most get along with each other team, so a marking sort of scheme would possibly be a good idea??:aikido:

Wellzy,
I just want to point out that you would need to be road legal for this.
Dont worry, one day you will be old enough to do all this stuff.
:sorry:
