Hi, I know im only a junior member but have been trawling through the net looking for navigation tools to show byways..Looked at the Devon TRF they said would provide one if you join (the site seems to me only aimed at moto riders with pics & so on...do they have quad members?...have read through old posts and saw there was one being created. Will I have access to this? or will it be on a taken into the fold (meet ups & ride outs) privilege?? do appreciate any info or advice (P1ss taking) on this...cheers wini

i think you have 2 choices, either memory map, which you can download via an SD card to a sat nav, or "veiwranger" which is an free app for a smath phone, then you buy the map (about £40) and off you go. i did run MM, but now veiwranger and i think is better,as you can make routes up on your phone when your out, and also record routes if someone else is leading,
hope this makes sence.

Give this a try too Wini, www.bywaydatabase.com and punch in your area of choice. Just remember not all of the marked lanes are open to four wheelers.

not sure if you are after pc based maps or ones you can take with you?
for pc based to search ordnance survey getamap is a superb tool for searching them out..
county councils also have electronic definitive maps online so another good source for finding out if they are open or closed..

As for mobile, then its memorymap, viewranger or the one "dangerousjohn" has which is similar to the other two but comes in its own waterproof self contained gps device, but dont know the name.

might sound like a stupid question but what is the penalty for mistakenly riding on a now closed green lane? presuming your map was out of date!

Not really sure.. A fine, section 59 issued...

It is up to the rider to prove he has a right to be there, so guilty until proven innocent !

Whats a section 59? we have to be careful here in the smoke, being watched night and day!

right on all counts, it hasn't worn off yet and wont for a while me thinks, in for 1st service while I wait on Friday! and apart from a few muddy puddles I haven't got it dirty yet! I keep watching videos and imagining what it will be like to go off road proper on it, unfortunately all my dreaming involves gravel trails in the American rockies!

You pay for viewranger and memory map so the maps are stored on your phone ;) (no internet/mobile connection needed)

Really good!...I've been out on it everyday/night since I got it (late reply as no net where I am) just getting used to its limits as far as road riding goes but the best feature is its power n acceleration..couple of seconds on the throttle n you dust ur mates..itching to get it off road...digging out the drysuit in prep for next ride out....
