Hi all, may I say what fun I had reading some of the comments the first time I logged on to this forum, great to see a bunch of non pc people having a laugh for once.
Anyway brand new to this, had a test ride of an outlander the other day, first time on a quad, absolutely awesome. I had never heard of CAN AM until I looked on ebay a couple of weeks ago looking for a quad for a present for my mates kids.
I am torn between a renegade (seen the new 1000cc) and an outalnder max.
Plus don't know whether there is a big advantage buying new or not.
What are your thoughts? is the 1000 renegade that much better than the old 800 model?

Glad you are now signed in and enjoying the 'banter'
for me I prefer the renegade to the outlander.
I am guessing this may be your first Quad ?
I have just recently brought a new renegade800xxc having been using a raptor 700 for 4 years I do really like the look of the 1000 of one of our members has one.
Both where purchased from Lloyd at OHG Devon, mine came with a 4 year warranty(ends January I think ) which i guess is a big plus when buying new.
Why did i buy the 800 and not 1000 just on cost alone
There are some bargains out there in the second hand market but you may have to travel miles to pick up and can't see any 1000cc second hand just yet.
What do you intend to use the quad for ?
As you can see from the web site most of us use ours for 'greenlaning' of which both renegade and outlander would suit.
Where did you see the renegade 1000?

Both Gs jettech and Russell powerboats have a 1000 in stock although there is a 1k difference in their prices, hoping to try greenlaning with with you guys.
Track racing dosen't really take my fancy, days or weekends on the lanes seems like the most fun. Comfort is a big factor I think for me, is a renegade much less capable than an outlander? Also on a new quad the first service is 10 hours then 50 I was told, that seems extremely short!

I will check the service intervals for you in my service book.
10 hours is correct for first service
' is a renegade much less capable than an outlander?'
I don't believe that to be true in my opinion, what normally limit's what you do is the rider.
There are lots of quads that will do what you want to do.
I have owned 4 different quads, Suzuki ltz 400, raptor 700,renegade800 and a quadzilla 300 xlc which was not really up to the task but was a starter quad for my son.
I still do really like my Raptor, as for comfort the renegade comes out top, as for thrill of riding the Raptor would be my choice.
Once you have made your choice I suggest get as much road riding in as possible get used to controls handling etc before venturing off road
Where about's are you based ?

I am based near Heathrow unfortunately. My next question would be how far could I realistically ride the thing to meet up with you guys, or would putting it in the van and driving to you (or anywhere else away from the smoke) be the only option.
Also is it possible to put a storage box on the renegade somehow, I feel more comfortable with the idea of some storage space rather than a rucksack. I was told you can ride with a passenger on the renegade, is this possible with any level of comfort and safety say if I wanted to take a mate out?
These were the main reasons I fancied an outlander, although I prefer the look of the renegade (I have to say the Raptor is a bit racey styled for me, although I appreciate they are probably the most popular quad and for good reason)
Sorry but I have a million and one questions in my head of course!!!

im in bsingstoke, but by lanes its probable a fair days ride just to get to me, most of the others are on or near the south coast. we normaly either around petersfeild/ alton way, or down to sailbury plain, but the others on their gades are going further a feild to find more challenging route for their machines,(staying away for the weekend) i would say if you have access to a van thats probably the best way in my opinion;)

thanks nelly, that's what I thought, weekends away sounds like just the ticket to me, that's why I was considering the Outlander over the rene, to be honest most of my mates are married so they would never be allowed to get a quad, the ones that aren't, aren't interested if that makes sense. So my only way forward with the pursuit is to find an established group of quad bikers.
Where do you guys normally meet up?

If you have a van that would be far easier to to meet then ride, not sure when you are planning on getting a Quad but the next arranged ride out is the 27th Dec.
From where you are you could meet the lads from basingstoke or come down the A3 to waterlooville we both meet up at a cafe called loomies and then ride out from there.
If you are planning on carrying a passenger then outlander
is probably best, but you get a rear bag for both outlander and renegade.
The weekends away are something different and you don't need a can am for them all the other weekends away where done on sports quads.

trying to get my buddy to get a quad, his wife wont let him and guess what, they're farmers. She says she would have to cover her face if she went out on a quad as farming folk where they live don't approve of quads.(Kent)
Took your advice and spoke to OHG, very knowledgeable and friendly, great deals on 2011 rene's as you said, the insurance has gone up to nearly 900 quid on a 1000cc, tracker is mandatory. MCE wanted 2k pa.
Having said all this I keep looking at the weather and thinking is this the wrong time of year to buy one! the downside of not being married is you can do what you like all the time, I'm running out of things to buy! however the pro's outweigh the downside.
I do have a friend who has a grizzly, but he uses it just to carry bambi from the field 5 miles from his house to the cooking pot in his kitchen ,like Mr Jagd I suspect, he has no interest in greenlaning as such just a workhorse.

thanks for the offer of leaving the van nelly, I may just come down if I haven't bought anything by then and take a look at your machines and get some more advice, that's another advantage of not being married, not having to spend christmas with a load of inlaws you cant stand.

I think that Lloyd must hypnotism people on the phone, I don't know you speak to him for 5 mins and you end up buying a can am :frusty:
Look into my eyes, all around my eyes did he say that to you Mark ??

not really, he sounds like an xbox playing teenager to me LOL, he just really sounds like he knows the product, the other dealers just really didn't seem to know, but were very friendly nonetheless, unfortunately I'm in sales so I know the importance of bullshit! if you sound convincing even if you don't know what the f--k you are talking about you sell stuff, oh and there's the offer of lodgings and a trip out if you buy a machine from them (oops! probably shouldn't have said that) don't fancy a trip to Devon for my 10 hour service though, halfway home and its turn around for someone to charge you 150 quid for a sparkplug and a bit of foam I suspect.

you don't have to take it back to the place you bought it from for the service any can am dealer can do that

bit embarrassing though going back to a local dealer to get a quad serviced that you bought from the other side of the country!
