I am going to check out a Yamaha XT225 Serow this saturday, fingers crossed, if good I will buy it .
You aint seen the last of me I promise you, I cant stand seeing grown men cry cos they cant read a map :D
And my two wheeled mates can show me the TROs where two wheels can ride :amen:
Really looking forward to getting a bike again, I loved the quads I have had but bikes are my number one passion :amen:

Now you just got to learn to ride it... lol

Part of the fun Andy, now is it clutch in, into gear, a few revs then clutch out ???? ;)
I will do some road riding to get back into the swing of it, I remember when I first got my SV how awkward leaning felt after not doing it for ages, after that I will do some local non-rutted byways then out with you guys :amen:
Hopefully I will get the Serow as they have a very nice low seat height .

We will see Neil:amen:
Hopefully Johnnyboy can `uncork` the engine, I have read that the exhaust is very restrictive on these bikes LOL

G if you buy it the first thing to do with it to my mind is to take a angle grinder and lump hammer to it to rid it of around 20lbs of unneeded clutter lol
exhaust is a massive part of the seventh bridge
carb is a cv type and would need tossing if the hunt for power was a must!!
I hired one of these when in grease once and found it to be a really good ride but did get it stuck while trying to do a massive hill climb up from a beach and that resulted in the airbox filling with sand and leaving me stuck with no tools and a seriously dead bike, managed to pull the air boot from the carb and ride till I managed to borrow a phillips screw driver to get access to my own private beach area YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED
Popes has one in there and when I pulled the clutch lever in all my arm musles and tendons popped as the clutch was so heavy! so arm is now in a sling for six weeks lol so practise pulling the little chap left handed for a while or secondly oil the cable

Do you mean stuff like the pillion footrest hangers Johnny ?

I hired one of these when in grease once

Whereabouts Johnny, the island of Lithium ? ;)

As you know, due to my lack of inches (vertically LOL) I am limited to only two bike models, the Serow or the Honda CRF230 so availability is limited, it is a problem made worse by the fact that you cannot buy these bikes new any more, I think the makers have some sort of issue with shorter riders, I should go to the european court of human rights and sue them for discrimination against shorties :)
Firstly, I want a decent bike mechanically, once it is proven to be so I will decide what I want to do with it :)

Insurance is proving to be more than I expected, have had two quotes so far of £146 and £148 TPFT, it seems crazy that it the same price as my quad was ???

Raptorman
13th June 2011, 02:15 PM
You are the high risk Graham, bike no problem ;);)

RED PRED
13th June 2011, 03:12 PM
:(Insurance seems to have rocketed in price .
Not happy as the bike is only a tiddler with a lowish value, but I have no choice

secret solo
13th June 2011, 04:56 PM
Speak to mce as i insured the cbr with them for £60..
Cant see how they want 3 times as much for you with a 3rd of the power???
Hastings direct or hastings bike, whatever it is always seems to come up as the cheapest for car and bike...
Has all your no claims gone ?

RED PRED
13th June 2011, 08:01 PM
MCE wanted £208, Falcon wanted £148 and Bikesure wanted £146, it would seem that bike insurance is expensive in my area, Bikesure carried over my NCD of 4 years on the quad .

A third of the power, the XT has a claimed 20HP which is about half the Raptors, I rung a few others but they would not let me have the quad NCD, pathetic really as its about not claiming not the bloody type of machine, as I have always said, insurance comps are a rip off !

:DWell I got it home bloody soaked, it felt hairy on the road with knobblies, only ridden bikes with road tyres before, but no problems, did all the byways between Alton and Bstoke and was fine but ruts will take some getting used to, having a bike I can touch the ground on saved a couple of offs in the ruts :D
Have started taking it apart to clean up and see what, if anything needs sorting out, it seems a nice little bike and is very easy to ride, much more comfy than the quad off road too :D

18th June 2011, 07:21 PM
Right who's going to have a bet with me? the bet will be how long before Graham has an off and regrets selling the sheep lol. Should have brought Gary's honda lol

two wheels short
18th June 2011, 08:29 PM
Sorry Graham but you cant call them things "knobblies".

They're more "un-smoothies"................. get some decent road legal knobblies on there and they'll be much bettererer!!

RED PRED
18th June 2011, 08:54 PM
Carl, I got the dealer to put proper knobblies on the bike for me :D

Pux, is Gary`s Honda for sale ?

two wheels short
18th June 2011, 09:07 PM
They take a bit of getting used to on the road but you should be able to safely take em over to the outside row of knobs.

RED PRED
18th June 2011, 09:56 PM
Its a while since I last rode a bike so will take a while to get confident with leaning again, but this little bike rides like a gem, very nice riding position and confidence giving handling-just the job :D
Its cleaning up real nice too, its in pretty good nick, need to touch up the swing arm where paint has come off due to welds not being cleaned up properly and frame where boots rub but thats it, very tidy-result :D
One thing I am impressed with is the amount of grease nipples, the swing arm, all suspension linkages, all have zerks .
