I was just curious as to what you trail bikers out there do when you get a puncture, superglue (as with quad tyres) would seem to be out of the question as would those repair kits, do you just drive to the end of the byway then call the AA or attempt to remove the wheel and carry out the repair in situ, how do you remove the wheel without a stand, do you look for some logs or bricks to jack up the frame, do you carry tyre levers, puncture kit and other tools ?

Call the AA?!!!

You repair the puncture with a patch on the tube or put in a new tube. I always carry both and the mini air bottles to pump em up with.

Just don't let John help out with the tyre levers, he'll put as many holes in your tube as he does himself!

A mate came across five bikes up by Butser the other day, one with a flat and no pump between them! Muppets!

Firstly for what ever the reasoning you will hardly ever pick up a puncture compared to a quad
Toss bike on side remove wheel and fix with a patch
or get one of them slime kit thingys and just carry on riding lol
Could even get a set of misses....... opps I mean mouses and stuff your luck when it comes to change a tyre
Most punctures will be a thorne or nail/screw so will be ridable with just more air
In all my years of MX / Enduros /Trials / Outfits / Greenlanes - I cant remeber more than two punctures maybe three but cannot recall how many due to changing tyres :crazy::crazy:

I did not think about laying the bike on its side, there lies my answer :)
I suppose carrying spare clutch and brake levers is essential too .

Spare levers?.............. Handguards young Graham.

If you ask Johnny nicely he'll show you his fender bag (no not the guitar) which will easilly hold tube, levers, mini air bottles etc..

The other option is to use a Tubliss system and stick (sorry) with super glue and a pump. http://www.tubliss.co.uk/

Metal framed hand guards are a must to stop snapped brake and clutch levers from when you fall off...

That is an interesting product young Carl, do you use it ?

Nice stick pun BTW :)

Some say not to tighten the lever to bars bolts too much so they move on contact with the ground .

Fit a Rekluse clutch and if you want you can toss that lever completely :)

Not tried the tubliss yet G but preferable to mousses i think........ although as with John i've not had a puncture laning yet (just tempted the puncture gods though)

Loosening the lever perches will work in some cases but if they are hit end on they'll snap rather than move...... wrap around handguards also protect your fingers if you hit a tree/branch.

The Rekluse clutch has taken over around here Me Carl Trig and now Fran have all become converts and I am looking at modifiying a crf450 unit to chuck into the TM as well but so far I have had no replies to my emails to them so need a main shaft from a honda to measure the splines, has anyone got one floating about lol

Why, I like asking Johnny technical questions, he is like the sites very own `bike expert` :) and I know you like aswering tech questions too, if everyone googled everything what a sad and uncommunicative world it would be :(

Nice one Johnny, must take a little bit of getting used to not having to pull the clutch to get in gear !

Since he is virtually making his own rekluses would say that elevates him above us menials somewhat ;)

Always wanted one for the raptor but they dont do one :(

LOL Andy
Actually its quite simple-- as the TM will accept Honda and or Kawasaki 450 clutch plates this means the majority of it will drop straight in as the basket is the same size, its just the clutch hub splines that prevent it happening! the kwack splines are way off so looking to see how close the honda ones are
If not the latest Trail type version should drop straight in but I think thats way overpriced and theres none in this country
