Look at the price of this baby !

Seems like the bikes of my generation are pretty good investments, if I could find a really nice example I would seriously consider buying it but not at this price :(
My quad is going on saturday so I will have some cash in my hot little hands, I must resist temptation to buy the first thing I like, I will take my time and suss out what I really want, Honda CRF230s seem quite rare and the only other trail option for me is the Yam Serow, a road bike is still tempting and the Street Triple keeps beckoning :)

The Zodiac with the bench seat in the front, sh*ggers delight :)
I love those 350 Yams and had soooooooo much fun on them, I think they look better than the bikes nowadays and in many ways are probably more fun as they are not far too powerful, modern bikes are much better in terms of handling etc but that just encourages you to ride at insane speeds, the old bikes started to get twitchy at times which made you slow down and ride within the limits, modern bikes dont seem to have limits, they are too good !

Those old RDs have got a hell of a lot of respect from so many bikers, a real cult machine :D
They were not without flaws though, the wheels and tyres were the same width on the 250 and 350 so tyres were limited when you upped the power output, the front forks were far too soft and fork dive under braking was a real pain, I made up an air conversion for mine, I used to get small bore stainless pipe and fittings/gauges etc when I worked on the gas board, that stiffened up the front nicely .
The engine was very tough, mine had over £20K on it without a rebore or new rings when I sold it and it had a Stan Stephens stage whatever it was tune on the barrels and cylinder head, Microns and Boyesen reeds and K&Ns with correct upjetting, it went like stink and I had to alter the gearing as it would easily rev out in 6th gear, somewhere I have a photo I took (with the camera taped on the tank) showing the speedo needle well past the 120mph mark :D

I had a old air cooled 250 rd once, ported and did a few other mods and that thing would show well over the ton and blow my mates 400rd into the weeds but it did need reringing every month or two the poor thing :)

When I was 16 I had a Honda SS50 5 speed model, my mates had the usual FS1E and AP50s but the fastest was the Fantic Caballero 50, but it kept eating pistons LOL
The Gilera 50s were quick but flat out at 45mph, the FS1E topped out at 48, the AP50 at 55 and my SS 55 but it took longer to get there :(

omg Graham, what a cool site that is,
this was the same as my 1st 125cc, took it to Bournemouth had it rebored, ported and skimmed, reeve block machined, Honda Attak modified, Suzuki Rg 250 left hand side carb, re jetted, she went off the clock which was 110mph, at the time the fastest 125 in basingstoke.

I went to Motts the other day and thought all the bikes looked ugly, whatever happened to nice flowing lines and all the parts blending in with each other, most bikes in there were really plasticky and bulky, I dont like the US style imitation Harley type bikes but have to admit they were the best looking bikes in there .
They had a lovely Manx Norton in there which puts the others to shame for build quality .
I like the Triumph Street Triple as a bike but cannot really say I love the looks, it has been styled to conform to the modern streetfighter trend and not in its own right as a unique motorcycle which is a shame .

Nice shiny bike Nelly, how come your quads are not kept so shiny :)
That bike of your mates is very nice, something unique and different would be good, I could get an Easy Rider chopper and wear a helmet like Peter Fonda then play born to be wild on bass while I ride :)

I had an AP50, forever coming off it with its skinny wheels for the speed of it, blew it up in the 87 storms manged 66 mph with the 100mph wind behind me , then had an RD 125 and that had chamfered ends on the clutch lever and brake through riding it like a mad man and smashed it up when I hit the powerband just as the lights changed on leigh road in Eastleigh, coz I pulled the front brake like an idiot :hurt:
