Hi,

What helmet types do you recommend for quad bikes? I need to buy one before the quad arrives.

I wear spectacles so does that make a difference in my choice? I remember when I weent skiing I had to get special goggles that were deeper to accept the spectacles.

I really want to avoid misting up etc as that used to annoy me in my biking days many years ago.

Help.

hi and welcome to the site.

i use an RST helmet as they look nice but more importantly are quite strong and fit nicely and are not too heavy for the neck, also don't restrict how far you can turn your head, there will be enough space to fut your glasses on and there is also some guides for the goggle straps:cool::cool:.

this is mine,

hope this helps:)

An open face helmet will give you much better vision and probably wont mist up as much as a full face because there is not anything to bounce your breath back towards your face .

This is my helmet, its very comfortable and you can flip the visor up and down very easily to clear it if it does get a bit of mist on .

I use a motox helmet and goggles. Works fine for me. You dont really need a expensive helmet for quads. Mine was £69.00 from Motts in Basingstoke, goggles where about 24 quid.

My advice would be to wear what you feel comfortable in.

not sure about your point whether you need such a good lid on a quad, the road, car, brick wall etc is just as dangerous on a quad as on a bike, true quads are not very fast compared to bikes but the danger is still there .
You dont want your helmet to fall apart if you hit a tree on the byways .
As long as it meets the relevant BS standards then it should be fine .

As someone who wheres glasses and looks good in them I may say lol, I see you have two choices if you want to look cool. One a motocross style helmet or an Arai tour x more expensive option but good I know someone who has one. Arai are good because they do have cut out for glasses but they are expensive but as they say you getwhat you pay for.

to me, looking cool is not part of the equation, you could not look uncool riding a Predator ! even in your pants :D
cool is for teenagers, what really matters is comfort and practicality, what suits the individual etc, an open face helmet is more practical as it offers easier on and off, less misting and better vision, the down side is slightly less facial protection .
you try telling a harley davidson rider in a black open face that he does not look cool, he would punch your teeth in ;):D

This is damm confusing. I spent hours trying on helmets (full face, open face, flip up, motoX etc...) at the local shop today and still can't decide.

Reading various reviews, the "Arai Tour X - 2"
http://www.gearchangeonline.com/product_desc.php?id=267
seems to be well liked for on-road and off-road use. Pretty pricey at £239 (thats the best I can find it for so far), but I may try a cheaper helmet initially although I would predfer something that is safe for on-road riding and off road, so may just go for this ...I just dont know!

Graham there is no point in having a nice quad and a stupid helmet ask any one who watches you go by.

Upperdeane just make the right choice once don't forget the dirt bike show is next month and there will be a good choice of helmets there.

to tell you the truth NJK, i dont give a toss what people think when i ride by, i am more concerned with comfort and what is right for me, no helmet is stupid if it saves your life is it ?

I dont think gary wants to wait that long Nige

It's a shame he didn't go to Weston, they had some good deals there on clothing, protection and helmets.

After a lot of helmet testing, and finding the "Arai Tour X - 2" just doesn't fit my head correctly, i have got a "Airoh S4". Got a Large and it seems to fit me fine.

Got it in titanium......

Look forward to wearing it tomorrow on my first ride on the new Outlaw.

Nice helmet, took mine apart to clean it today, all the lining comes out easily, you will find you sweat heavily in a helmet when off roading so to keep it from stinking bad, a regular wash is required .
