Hi Gents
I thought I would put my two peneth worth in here rather than the “Racing Section”! As I am toooooooooo old to race and far too chicken now!

Have been using winches on front and in the back of my 4x4’s /pickup’s for years and the one thing I know is if you buy cheap you will regret it!!

It never gets any maintenance or TLC until it toooo late and you need to use it cheap winches are not worth the money under any circumstances in my humble opinion.
They still use wire rope and that really hurts WHEN you cut yourself!!! Decent modern winches even Quad sized can now have poly type ropes that are much safer.

“WARN” (Not cheap I admit) but are the best make and yes they do a range for Quad’s try:

They are at Milton just outside Abingdon just off the A34 ask for “Ed” he is the boss man there and knows every thing there is to know about winches and stuff.

Now about this winch racing will it be at Weston this weekend?????????

i hate to say this, but i bought a cheap £50 winch and it has lasted 3 years with not one problem, and pulls a lot of weight.

Been let down to many times by cheap winches, every one I know now buys WARN. The trouble with the cheap imports around these days they tend to break just when you really need them!
You can pick a small quad size unit for around £100 or so.
The most important thing is to learn to use one safely!! I dont like blood or pain!

I guess its about how often and how hard you use it!!

Some very good points there Jagd, and we would be stupid not to bow to your experiance on this one.

I did buy a really cheap winch just to get me going, i kind of always suspected it would be no good in the long run.

However, the problem is how to attache the mount plate lol. Ill worry about the winch later.

Its good we know someone who can reach us all to winch. Im well aware that having a winch is one thing, knowing how to use it safely and properly is another .

Warn or Super Winch are much of the same. I have wired more of these than I care to remember.
