I would recommend this chain, its a bit more expensive but should last longer, are you changing sprockets as well ?

I would also recommend buying from `off road only`, they can advise you on sizes etc .

im waiting on a prie for the sprockets ....
i need a chain asap to move the quad home again as i had to put it at my parents house last night. i cant get it into my garden unless its under its own power. a proper pain in the butt.
so my first aim is just to get it home.

while pricing chains today i have been fed so much B.S its unbelievable...
so far the prices run from i need a chain that is V rated and thats £55 + vat etc...
to the standard quadzilla chain at £42.99 + vat
i can get the same chain from m&p for half that. after all a chain is a chain right..... be it O ring , X ring or standard.
reading through that guide that mr red posted , i get the feeling some places like to charge more by getting you to buy the best. im trading my quad in later this year so dont need a chain to last a million years ;)
my head hurts alot now :faint:
heres what im looking at

but in 520 size that i need..........

Did a problem crop up yesterday during the ride?
yes mate.... almost the last lane of the day and my chain came off and jammed itself in the rear sprocket.... no major damage other than the chain itself. if it wasnt for mr solo and mr dangerouse i would still be there now :D

Not strictly true, `O` ring chains are not as good as `X` and `Z` rings because they dont seal the grease in as well and let debris get to the rollers .

Mine and trigs chains cost £80 each and have never needed adjusting since being fitted over a year ago
Cheap O ring or X ring chains are like rubber bands and are a huge waste of money as they then wear the sprockets out quickly so adding to the cost
X O or Z have do not let debris into the rollers unless they are knackered or blasted with our good friend the power washer
the reason X and Z rings are used is to keep friction and heat down to a minimum but I know you knew this allready G and you were just having a little joke;)

Whatever chain you get will get shagged pretty quick on old sprockets so just keep an eye on it..
I cut links off with a 4.5 " angle grinder, remove pin heads and knock them out.
Raptorman takes a bottle of lube with him (big jim might be getting interested now?);) and he gives his chain a quick blast whilst out riding as the chains do seem to get very dry very quickly off road.
I had a renthal x ring atv chain on my last quad, once set never needed adjusting again !!
Chain failures nearly always seem to be the head of the pin, letting the link free and chain then throws a wobbly!

i carry chain lube aswell ....well that box has to come in handy for something other than carry my lunch lol.
i have had a good look at my sprockets today and they look almost brand new, apart from a bit of blood on it . i think thier saving grace is they are steel sprockets and not alloy. the qz has done just over 2500 miles. so like you say i will keep a close eye on things mate. see what happens over the next week or 2
good idea on the grinder :D

Johnny, I read that article on chains in my previous post, it makes sense that X and Z rings are better as they are a flat seal rather than a curved seal so more sealing area, also due to their cross section they can expand to take up any gap caused by wear as opposed to an O ring which cannot so the gap becomes bigger and lets in more crud, but you know that and are having a little joke too ;):D

Ah but then again G it really dosnt matter if its O Z or X if you then liberaly smother the thing in chain lube that then mixes with all the sand dirt and grime becoming a mass of grinding paste and therefore doing its best to destroy the rings rollers sprockets ect,as you well know you dont put chain lube on ringed chains just spray them with wd 40 or the likes off ;):D

As a matter of interest Johhny, what chain lube do you use, I bet you take the chain off and boil it in that thick grease on the cooker top, remember doing that LOL, my mum used to go mental at me for doing that :D

Do you remember those days G ? My dear old mum used to do her bits with all that waxy mess everywhere lol, in the end I had to buy a small camping stove and do it away from the house
I will admit to the fact that I do give my chain a quick squirt with chain lube sometimes as its a habit but I try not to go mad as its more to keep the rust at bay than for lubrication I just use the cheap stuff from tool station now as I cant see the point of wasting money on good stuff for a chain that is fully sealed and the grease is put inside the o rings from the factory as to keep the things maintnence free supposably
If you scrape a bit of old chain lube/muck that forms on the sprockets and rub it between your grubby mits it is the best tooth paste you can get its that gritty lol, Im sure there is a topic on the interweb somewhere debating the does and donts of ringed chains and I may be wrong but its what I was told a very long time ago in the dark ages and have stuck with ever since and it works for me

I remember those days well, and my dad going mad at me for getting Gunk on his drive !
Boiling the chain in the wide tins was a bit dangerous, easy to get boiling grease on yourself if not careful when removing the chain .
