Hi all,

Thanks for your help to date.

I've just paid (ouch!) for a new Polaris Outlaw 500E and I'm hoping to get it within the next week or so. After some initial running in i'll be looking to join some of the local guys for some fun:)

Would you believe it, only day 2 - new bike broken down! 3 miles from home. Walked back, waiting for roadside recovery to take me to Berry Farm to see what the hell is wrong with it.

It just locked out at about 50MPH and all 4 wheels skidded me to a halt ...rather scary.

Glad my insurance included Roadside Recovery!

if all 4 wheels skidded then it sounds like the brakes stuck on suddenly, if it was the engine seized it would only make the driven rear wheels seize, all the same, not a good start but might not be anything major, fingers crossed for you .

Hi,

All sorted, nothing major.

Steve also going to order the MPH spedo under warranty and also fit me a new set of front and real sprokets when he does the service (now rescheduled until after the wekend ride) for me to alter the gearing so I dont only use gears 3, 4 & 5!

Glad I have roadside assistance on my insurance policy though!

Looking forward to the ride on Sunday.

usually people lower the gearing by both or either of the following ,

1 extra tooth on front sprocket and /or 2 teeth less on the rear sprocket

Now we know the value of having a local dealer, imagine having the nearest dealer 100 miles away-nightmare

Yes, would have been a tad more difficult for me if dealer not local.

In terms of the gearing mod I discussed with the dealer, I think he was suggesting one front and two rear. But I cant remember whether the front was off and back was on (or the other way around) but I remember the were opposite amd it was one front and two rear.

Anyhow, he said it would help me spread out the gears. To be honest I'm only usind 3, 4 & 5 nearly all the time....and once above about 25-30 MPH its 5 only. On road 1,2, & 3 seem too close together. Hopefuly it will help there.

All learning fun eh...

Its one one more on the front and two less on the rear sprockets .

Thanks ....do you have any idea what this may mean in real terms as the difference in riding ?

Hi,

For thoose who remeber I missed the 27/12/07 Menon valley ride as my quad wouldnt start. Outlander came to my rescue.

Anyhow its been in the garage since Xmas. I just phoned them and they have looked at my quad. Problem is nothing serious, just a few little problems all at the same time.

1. Flasher unit for indicators - faulty unit. On back order from Polaris but hopefully he should get it this week.

2. Drain on battery - due to faulty flasher unit for indicators. This was actually causing some weird electrical issues.

3. Neutural gear selector light - simply bulb went.

4. Vibration noise - missing bolt on cover over exhaust. It has been replaced and noise now gone away.

He is hoping it should all be all fixed by the end of this week :)

Thats lucky Gary, nothing more than a few niggles, I bet the next thing to go will be the rear brake light switch-watch this space lol .

A lucky escape with a small bill then, at least he was able to find the fault...
