We are going on the friday, expect to be on the farm Saturday and Sunday. Return late Sunday afternoon. I suspect there may be much drinking going on the evenings and that may effect the morning plans on the Sunday lol.

The exact details may change but we will be there.

Here are the details.

I rang Tom the other day to tell him we were coming ( as in 4 of us). He wants people to ring in advance now to make sure its ok to come. I think he wants to do a bit of 'filtering' as he's sick of idiots causing trouble there. We are booked in .

Location
Cwmderw Farm. Landranger map 147, ref. 030-787.
Nearest post code for satnav LD5 6

Directions
From the center of Rhayader (the clocktower), take the A470 NW towards Llangurig for a few yards. Turn right onto B4518 just after arts centre/cinema, signed to St Harmon. Go through St Harmon & keep going to Pan-y-dwr. Turn right by pub/phone box towards Bwlch-y-Sarnau. When you get to a junction on a right-hand bend, go straight on - NOT right to Bwlch. This should take you into the forest. Look out for a left turn just after a right-hand bend, & take it. Follow this down, through the gate at the end of the forest, & behold the wonderland

Opening Times
Open every day at 10am

Cost (approx)
£10 per Bike (Quad)per day plus £5 camping

Facilities
There are port-a-loo’s (but use at your own peril)
We have seen a burger van up there once (eat at your own peril)
Camping – wrap up warm, its on top of a hill so be warned its cold…

Yeah, Toms a good guy, I hav'nt heard anyone say a thing against him.
Hes very chatty and helpful. Will be a good weekend. Looking forward to it. We are staying at a local B&B rather than camping. We are far too old to go camping in October lol

We intended to be there from around 10 to 2pm today, unfortunatly a few minor injuries ment that 2 of us were not up to riding. This combined with the inclement weather made us decide to call it a weekend and make our way back.

The two sports quads struggled with the mud & rutting on Saturday, after a night of heavy rain we thought it would have been impossible for them.

Sorry we missed you, my apologise.

:)Its funny how catmandoes has not mentioned how he came a cropper, I mean you expect two wheel drive quads to get stuck in those conditions but not a four wheel drive ;):D honestly the terrain in places was extreme, unlike anything you see around here, I went over the handlebars on mine when the front end dived into an unseen hole and the ruts had to be seen to be believed, canyons more like .
Toms farm is a great place for four wheel drive vehicles, there are no rules or any kind of discipline, it is motorised anarchy .
There were bikers boozing on Stella then racing around on their motocrossers, wrecked vehicles strewn around and wrecked caravans etc .
The top of the mountains had great tracks to ride but because of the mist that came down we kept going round in circles getting lost, poor Danny was getting worried that we would be stuck on the mountain all night and miss our beer
All in all a good weekend with some wild riding which proved very difficult on sports quads with two wheel drive .
The highlight of the weekend-the breakfast at the Sun Inn B&B

the ideal quad for toms farm would have caterpillar tracks :D
Its the kind of place that i think everyone should try because there is something for everyone as long as you are realistic about what you can do, there are places that lure you in and i can imagine people not getting out of, we were a bit unfortunate that the fog came down and prevented us seeing the tracks and the scenery which was nice compared to the general flatness of southern england .
If you try and be clever or macho then you will die there ;)

No problems, I know what it’s like up there on a sports quad. I've done it before, it can get very fustraiting at times:(. I guess the winter @Toms is best suited to the 4WD machines, the summer is a different story when its bone dry...

Maybe see you somewhere else soon:)
