Despite the fact that I would be very dissapointed if specific compulsery driving tests were introduced for Quad riding i can see the sense and indeed need for it.
Many people buy Quads without any real understanding of how to ride them properly. Lets face it, controlling quads can be dangerous, often because of the unexpected hole or ditch. People often ride beyond their capabilities until they gain enough experiance to know otherwise. RedPred witnessed a accident recently that was clearly a result of inexperiance and could have been fatal.
I think that the Quad industry needs to take some responsbility in these matters. There are many underhand entrepreneurs out there wanting to make a fast buck by selling chinese quads to anyone and giving the impression that there is no reall skill involved. It takes skill, judgment and experiance to ride a Quad properly. People need to start somewhere and in that sense people should seek out and associate themsleves with groups such as ours. Its worth considering that the UK quad riding expertise and advice rests within small groups of enthusiasts. Clearly, from the types of regulations that the government have in place for assessing what quads are suitable for the road, they dont really understand Quad safety.
