How waterproof is your Quad ? Have you done anything to improve its resistance to water ?

I've seen many videos of ATV's in water but im really curiouse to know what are the consequences of 'quad swimming' and what can you do to reduce the effect. I 've had my transmission belt slip before due to having a large bow wave and consequently getting water through the transmission vent. I've also just have electrical problems causing mis-fire due to being clumbsy with a hose pipe. Not very impressive resistance I have to say. Also intrested to know if anyone managed to get water in their oil/fuel and how they managed to remedy it.

Would like to make my Quad as water resistant as possible.

Buy a submarine with wheels .

I would prefer not to submerge my quad because water is not healthy inside engines and around electrical systems, prevention is better than cure .
If it does get in the engine then you would have to make sure the engine is completely drained then flushed out with clean oil and refilled with new oil and a new oil filter fitted .
I would not be content with that and would probably take the engine top cover off to make sure there is no water trapped in the area above the valves etc .
I would think the only way to be 100% sure all water is out is to strip the engine, a lot of work for a small amount of pleasure (if you like driving your quad in deep water) .
As i suggested, spray WD40 around the quad before getting wet .

But it looks such Fun..... ! I really like crashing through water and getting a HUGE bow wave. I think you have to prep your quad properly though and mine seems a bit vulnrable at the moment. The guys from Quadsuk know this sort of stuff. Please please pass on your secrets *bow*.

Lots of WD40 and Silicone spray works for me...

Or you can use a snorkel kit, the yanks seem to use them all the time.

It takes a strange and perverse kind of mind to enjoy wallowing around in cold, muddy and slimey water, maybe you were a Tapir in a previous life .
