Does anyone know if Scotland has a different rights of way system and classification to England and Wales ? I have read some information that implys that it does.
I would like to know what the classification are if they are different .
Cheers

From what i know rights of ways are not mapped by local council as in the UK. There is no definative maps as such so many are routes contenciouse. Having said that, there are miles and miles of nothing in many places.
Still researching this but i found this website.
http://www.scotways.com/
According to the FAQ.....
Are there any rights of way where I can drive a vehicle?
"There are very few rights of way for motorised vehicles in Scotland. The total number is 142, and these have an average length of less than 1 mile. They are mostly short stretches of roads that have not been adopted by the local authority. Using a vehicle off-road is an offence except where disabled people use motorised wheelchairs or buggies "
Sounds a bit bleak for trail riding but i somehow suspect the reality is somewhat different to the law in some place.
Anyone living in scotland able to comment ?

I bought an OS map of the Capewrath area of scotland. Miles and miles of nothing, no roads, footpaths, Rights of way or villages. Just pure remote countryside, small mountians and secluded lochs. I would love to explore the area on a quad. A real remote wilderness adventure :-) . I read that is fairy easy to get permission from landowners in Scotland to let you wander in the very North of Scotland. Just need a bribe - the finest malt.
Must be a way to do it. If Sean can organise his adventure to spain there must be a way to plan a expidition to the scottish wilderness.
I know this isnt your cup of tea RP. I bet YP would like it though.

lochdoom! if you want to go quading in scotland, but go prepared because it is dangerous and you will get stuck, it's hard but fun 2 days quadding, i would advise you to go with a few from quadsuk who have been before as you will need at least two 800cc to recover people, i'd do it after christmas as it is freezing up north at the minute plus it will give plenty of time to plan plus i might be able to come on new quad!!:cool:
this is a green lane so quads have to be road legal, but agri registerd quads i think are allowed?
if you want to go tell me and i will speak with nig and allen on quadsuk:cool:;)

Lochdoom, is definiatly on the list, not quite the adventure trip im talking about but one for the program.
Its a shame all the really good off road places seem to be in the North :-)
We are rather lacking in quad transport (and time) at the moment to get up there.

I really think there must be some great places in Scotland to go, you just need to find them. Im faciniated with the remote places in the north. Theres' a hotel that advertises that it it 18 miles away from the nearest village.
Your lucky to live up there, as when you finallyare road legal you should take full oppertunity of it.

I will definatley try to get up north with my quad to meet up with you guys next year. See how many of BHQTA will come as well. Im hoping to sort my transportation issue out soon. My wife's car has just died and im thinking of replacing it with a Discovery and a trailier. Well i can see the logic in it even if she can't :D

Hi All
new to this site, so please bair with me. i live in scotland, just south of edinburgh, and have been trying for some time to find routes that can be used quads.
although my understanding is that there is free access to all land in scotland, it does not allow us to ride quads over it, as nost land is private.
there was a charter brough out, which promoted access for thoses with a disability (and i just happen to be paraplegic) and, although a some wat grey area, i could use that act to allow me to ride tracks anywhere, as long as i ack in a responsable manor. having said that, it's not set in stone, just an opinion of some one i emailed about it all.
so, if anyone is heading up this way, and has found somewhere to ride, and would allow me tag along, get in touch, or if there is anything i can do do to help, let me know.
cheers

there is something to do with the countryside act that allows disabled the right to roam, but only in electric disabled vehicles, not on anything that has an engine!
There are "off road" capable electric disabled vehicles which allows you the ability to theoretically go where the tramplers go.

You could always swap the engine for a battery motor ;)

you can buy battery powered quads and no not the kiddies toy variety, real full sized road legal quads, not sure how many miles you get out of them per charge.

They must be very heavy, imagine the battery it would need Dave !!
