I went down a byway into Collinbourne forest and came upon a sign from the forestry commision stating 'no motorcycles' .
If a track is marked as a byway on a OS map, and there are no TRO signs i believe no land owner has the right to deny vehicle access (there are a few extraordinary exceptions). In fact it is againt the law to do so. I believe that some landowners put up signs to discourage use even though there is a legal right and this in itself may be illegal. I should really challenge the foresty commision about this but i probably wont as i dont have the time to get into such debates.
I ignored the sign and continued as is my right.
I do quite a bit of research into routes to ensure that i have a right to use them. If they are maked as a byway and there are no signs indicating that a TRO is in place , and there are no red flags (live firing). Then i will use the byway.
Heres a pic of the sign.
