This video aptly describes why i like ATV's and 4x4 rather than sports quads.

This is langdale quest with Quadsuk from last weekend

Funnily enough Nige, I was thinking of you when I saw that ;), that was a good bog that caught you out, good job there was a Renny to tow you out,
what was really funny was that 20 yards to the left was a proper level bit of road that I used instead of the swamp LOL

But still not as funny to watch as your river dance quad style:D

Nige, is that when i spun it round to end up looking at the hedge, that was funny, must have either hit something under the water or a front wheel went down a hole, shame no-one was filming :D
I still think the best bit was when Gary`s Renny got stuck in a rut .

No I think the best was when I soaked you by that puddle.:)

That was funny apart from the grit that stayed in my eyes all day :(

It was a very enjoyable ride made all the better for not having to stop for half an hour for Danny to catch up LOLOL, only joking Danny, it was 20 minutes really ;)

I might do some calculations to work out whether i could use a rope and pulleys to get my quad out of a fix, i reckon if i could rig up a set of lightweight pulleys and attach to a tree and the quad, with the right amount of pulleys and a velocity ratio of at least 3 to 1, that i could pull the quad off a rut or bog easily, cheaper than a winch plus i like a challenge .
My Pred only weighs 400lbs so 3 to 1 would give 1200lbs pulling ability .

Do you mean if a quad is stuck and you attach your pulley to a tree and pull it with your quad. Or do you mean if you get stuck you will pull it out yourself because with that ratio it would still way 133lbs.

Using pullies etc seems a lot of effort to pull a quad out, and you may not have anything around to anchor them on to. I think having a quad with a winch has got to be the easyist, quickest and cheapest way of doing it.

You can get a 2000 lb winch for around £50. Yeah i knows theres better ones around but if you only going to use it occasionaly then it will be fine.

OR

Buy a ATV and dont get stuck i the first place ;-)

If there was nothing to anchor to then a winch aint much use either .
I was just toying with the idea thats all, just keeping the old grey matter ticking over, I am sure something could be concocted to rescue a stuck quad with a pulley system, people have pulled far heavier things than quads using this method .

Could just do what we did (per the weather check photo) tie the tow rope around the grab bar and pull from the bank. Was an interesting and thankfully easy recovery that time.

How many times are we going to get that stuck? Random idea...How about an HGV ratchet strap? Can be extended by peoples tow ropes if need be. may give enough brute strength to free up for manual pull....think a tirfor jack and ground anchors is a bit ott.

More like rescue a 4x4 quad...
We all saw the 4x4 get stuck in binstead swamp and it took another 4x4 with a winch to try and get it out, it also killed the winch..
Then the ktm sports quad came along, went over twice as far before becoming stuck and all it took was literally a bit of string and a raptor pulling in reverse and out the sports quad came ! :fencing:

and we all know that raptors dont pull well in reverse

The only reason Trig got as far as he did was because of his high speed entrance, get a Rene or any other 4x4 at the same speed and it would win without doubt !!

I would like to see that, oh Graham you cant because your a Traitor

Yer Graham how far do you think a Triumph triple would get :band1:

You all know its true, Trig entered the swamp like a bat out of hell whereas Chris practically walked in, the video is evidence, nothing to do with being a traitor LOL
If a big 4x4 entered at the same speed as Trig with all 4 wheels driving and its extra weight giving more momentum, you all know it would get further LOL just admit the obvious :)

But we all like playing the game dont we :)

But would it really get further?
Loots more weight on the front will cause it to bog down quicker ?
The sports quad will be light on the front as rider will have his **** hanging over the back and the acceleration will be lifting the front so which one would get further?
