This looks fun.....

The first Quad Bike 8 hour endurance orienteering challenge covering the WHOLE of the North Yorkshire Moors area is to be held on Saturday Oct 6th. Around 50 orienteering points to find - most will be 6 fig grid refs, some may just be written clues!!
At each point will be a card pin stamp & an orange/white orienteering flag to mark the spot. Most points will be along Highways both surfaced & un-surfaced, although some may well be in well known locations! ( we will arrange this with the establishment owner before hand!)
Each rider or team (no more than 3 quads if a group) need to visit as many of the points as possible during the given time frame - 8 hours & can visit them in ANY order.
At each orienteering point the team must stamp their card in the correct square using the clip provided - this is the only way to score the points for visiting that location. Each team will be supplied with a list of 50 orienteering points - most will be 6 fig OS format - but some will just be a written clue - this should seperate the men from the boys!
Each participant will need to bring along OS maps covering the entire North Yorkshire Moors area - GPS units are ALLOWED. The entry fee is £25 per rider. £5 of each entry fee will be donated directly to the 'Just Giving' fund - fighting children's cancer.
There will be the following prizes:
1st Prize - a pair of Fieldsheer deep back enduro jackets (all sizes available) value £200 + a FREE X-pass to the Moorland Adventure Sport site value £175 - total value £375!!!
2nd Prize - a FREE X-pass to the Moorland Adventure Sport site - value £175
3rd Prize - Fieldsheer kit bag valued at £50
The teams are awarded 1 point for each sucessfully stamped square on their score card - the winning team is the one with the highest score. In the event of a tie, the team taking the shortest time to complete the task will be the winner.
Well, how does that sound!
Each team will cover between 150 & 200 miles to complete the event, this will not be a walk in the park!
Participants MUST advance book their place on this event - no on the day bookings will be taken. Bookings can be made via our office on 01723 882335 - or via this web site soon...
Once a booking has been made then the rider(s) will be sent the relevant start point information etc + their START TIME - teams/individuals will be set off one at a time with a 5 min gap - this helps prevent bunching & convoys of quads developing.
Go on - this is set to be a fantastic event suitable for all skill levels...

I may try to organise one for the south one of these days.

Back to a good ole map and compass. We will be well stuffed without our sat navs . lol

I've notices in the south no-one goes anywhere without a satnav in their car.

If only i had a van / trailer . Its the key to so many events. Id be going up north for this one.

Ill have to work on a transport solution for next year. I feel out miss out a bit because of it. Its expensive to keep hiring a van all the time.

Does anyone have a car / 4x4 that has a tow hitch as I may be able to borrow a double deck car transporter trailer that could possibly fit 4 quads.

Which lifestyle danny, where you work out in the wilderness and need a 4x4 to get you out of trouble or where you join all the other chelsea tractors in traffic jams going to work or taking their kids to school .
4x4 cars/chelsea tractors are unneccessary in an ordinary lifestyle unless the owners want to pose in them, (in which case many people now think the drivers are prats thanks to the eco-friendly brigade) i used to know someone who had a top of the range Range Rover and it never went off road once, what a poser :D
Unless you have an ulterior motive danny, i think you would be one of the four wheel drive green lane gits who deliberately create ruts in which to catch unsuspecting sports quad riders
