Before a new SD card for Memory-Map can be used with a Road Angel 7000 you will need to copy some important files to the card. These files can be downloaded from;

http://www.memory-map.co.uk/downloads/roadangel.zip

Once downloaded please follow the instructions below to setup the SD card.

1. Extract the files from the downloaded zip file and place them in a temporary folder, such as C:\roadangel.

2. If you have a card reader on your PC insert the SD card and copy the contents of the C:\roadangel folder onto the SD card. Once the files are copied the SD card can be used in your Road Angel, along with any maps you transfer to the card. If you wish to use the Road Angel navigation software, simply reinsert the original SD card and reset the unit.

3. If you do not have a card reader then you will need to copy the files to the SD card via Microsoft Activesync. If Activesync is not already installed on your PC it can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com

Insert the new SD card into your Road Angel and then connect it to your PC. Activesync will ask if you would like to create a partnership with your device, choose No or Cancel and take the Guest option if offered. When Activesync is connected click the Explore button on the toolbar and in the new window that appears double-click on ‘My Windows-based Mobile Device’ and then on SDMMC card.

Copy the contents of the C:\roadangel folder from step 1 and paste them into this SDMMC folder. Once the files are copied the SD card can be used in your Road Angel, along with any maps you transfer to the device. If you wish to use the Road Angel navigation software, simply reinsert the original SD card and reset the unit.

Does the memory card come with the RA 7000 or do you have to purchase that seperately ?

You will have to buy a seperate card for the memory map application, it is quite easy to copy once you get used to it, Danny would be the one to help if you get a problem .
I got a 1GB card for £8 from Staples

Just a word about Memory cards. There is a difference between the cheap and expensive ones.

The Expensives ones have a lot better access time than the cheaper one I.E they are quicker ! Doesnt make a great deal of difference on the RA but its worth knowing as maps can take a little while to load as they contain loads of data.

:confused::confused:Does anyone know if the OS Memory Map that you all seem to use and recommend can be loaded into any gps system? What I really want to know is would it go into my Garmin Quest GPS or do I have to stick with Garmin Maps?

Hi Outlander

Memory map is not supported on ANY Garmin device .

Has to be a device thats uses windows mobile OS, specifically versions 5.

The Road Angel is a exception, that is a WindowsCE device but a special version of memory map has been ported for it.

However :)

You can use the Memorymap PC application to plan routes out on your PC and then upload the routes onto a garmin.

You can also collect data from the garmin, upload it into memory map on your pc and display the track data.

The upshot of all this is you cant use memorymap maps on a garming device.

Thanks for that info, looks like I'd better stick with what I've got for now. It was just a thought as I realised that memory map and road angel were 2 seperate things.:84:

I think the Garmin stuff is good, just not as good for off road stuff as memorymap.

Outlander, If your in the Newbury area sometime and want to have a look at the memory map stuff give me a call and you can come round and ill give you a demo.

Thanks for that, I'll probably wait until I see you on a ride out again as I'm in no rush. As you know the outlander comes with the Garmin already fitted which is good for the American market as they can get offroad maps but the UK map system doesn't cover byways. Hope to see you out there soon - I know your busy at the moment.

I have already download the zip file and it's include the files and a folder named RoadAngel.

In the files there are Memory-Map_CE.exe, HoluxNavi.exe, Blackspot.exe and the MMTutorial.exe.
When I'm trying to run HoluxNavi.exe I'm getting a message "No metro area installed. Please install at least one metro area." and in the clicking of OK it get you OUT.
In the Memory-Map_CE.exe file the programm starting but I'm getting the message "GPS: Can't open COM port".
I have a SatNav400 with Processor Type SAMSUNG ARM-ARM920 (http://www.telematix.gr/site/navigation2_en.html)
The other one exe file (Blackspot.exe) isn't responcing.
