We all know how daunting it can be when you are thinking about buying a quad for the first time, or if you have just bought one and dont know how to ride it or where to ride or who with ?
Please post your thoughts in this section and help will be readily available .

Shame people have to buy a quad before they really find out what it's about. Perhaps we should see if there is a way to give people a taster somehow before they make decisions. Perhaps put some links of day out videos here to look at without having to search (no I don't know how to do it). Shame there is no 'rent a quad for the day' facility.

There are places where you can try a quad i went on a stag do at bournemouth, i thought it was ok for first time run out, all the lads who had not been on one thought it was brilliant.

Maybe a link on the home page ?

It might be a good idea to put ideas and discussions for newcomer quad day events in the relevant website section and then final details should be posted in this new to quads section, that way any new members will get the info they want without having to read through the discussions .

If youve just bought your quad to go off road ,first get as much road experience as you can so you are confident and gain throttle/clutchhandling control, then come out and try off road !

Good advice, quads do have strange handling characteristsics when first ridden, must say the sports quads are perhaps the easiest to get the hang of as they generally feel safer with their lower centre of gravity, less weight and greater width .
4x4 quads always seem tippy to me so I guess they would unnerve a complete novice ?

When I picked up my qz 450 and rode it up the road and tried to go round a roundabout I thought "Oh shit why did I sell my lovelly smooth fireblade"
But then after a few miles i started to enjoy it, and when the snow came, well yipee what a laugh.
Its all run in now, and I am enjoying it, would like it a bit faster if i am honest when on the road, off roads fine though, ( By offroad I mean new forest gravel car parks as I have not been green laning yet), looking forward to laning as long as I dont f... up my quad as I am aware they are not the most bulletproof of machines.

they are not the most bulletproof of machines.

Many would say the QZ450 is a very robust machine .

I know what you mean about a faster machine, its something bikers experience, on open roads you open the throttle of a quad and wonder where the power is, I am the same, open straight roads expose a quads lack of power but get one on a tight twisty country lane in the wet or off road then the lack of power is actually a bonus, would you really want 120BHP going through knobblies and a fixed rear axle, the 40BHP of most sports quads is about right for a quads design and enough to have fun on :D

I changed my sprockets with the help of one of the guys on the forum and got a free 20 mph out of the top end. 70 on the road is now do-able instead of the old 50 mph.

The top end is ok 76 on the speedo, just a bit more grunt, I agree though is plenty for off road, though a top gear power slide sounds good :)
