Not get stuck in mud

Another of those obstacles sent to try us .

Basically for two wheel drive quads, there are three choices;

1. Hit the mud/bog at high speed and pray you will get through
2. Ride through slowly in a lower gear and hope you get traction all the way
3. Find a route round it or keep one side of the quad on firmer ground

The trouble with high speed is that sometimes the amount of water that splashes up at the rider can temporarily affect vision and the density of the water can slow the speed right down, get this wrong and you will get stuck .
Aother problem is not being able to see what lurks under the water, yesterday I rode through a large puddle at a decent speed and suddenly the handlebars whipped to the right and the quad spun to the right about 90 degrees from my chosen line, there must have been a hole or something under the water .

Sometimes you cannot avoid getting stuck so always have a Renegade handy to tow you out .

I never have this problem :D

However from what i've seen there are some cool techniques to get out of sticky mud which involve moving your weight around the bike (i have an advantage here) :-)

Theres some great videos on Youtube showing people doing this. In the US mud pluggin is a competition in its own right - up there with the enduro and MX.

this is my biggest problem these days:p:D

i find if you lean back on the bike give your self some distance and build up speed before you hit the mud, even if your wheels do loose traction there will still be some momentom and if that fails, i've got a winch on the front of my bike :D:rolleyes:

Sometimes that works and sometimes it does`nt, a winch is a good tool to have provided there is something to attach it to or you have a good enough ground anchor .

Hovercraft, great idea, bit big for the lanes and dont go uphill too well and corners are a bugger, but for mud-unbeatable LOL
