A new project.
Due to the gadgets that absolutlye must have when riding, i think its about time I installed a power socket. I believe that you can get one as an option from polaris when buying new so i think theres enough spare power there to do it. I will of course check this.
Any thoughts/ considerations i need in doing this mod? . Seems fairly simple to me ???

put a fuse in the line along the wire, it will protect your equipment and bike;)

A wiring diagram for your particular quad will be useful to see where to take the feed from, I take it you want it to be off with the ignition switch and not straight off the battery .

I would try to get one that is IP 65 rated, then put a splash proof blade fuse holder up front of it and connect it to the battery. If you wan't it ignition controlled then use a relay, I can help with this due to my background. But do you really need one?

Thanks for that, its helpful. Good to know an Electrician.
Do i need one ? no i dont, But do i want one ? definetly yes. :) I find when modifiying quads there not many modifications that people absolutley need. Its like the alloy wheels thing .
I've just bought a kick-ass off road nav system which is quite heavy on its internal battries. The Spec says they last 8 hours which in real terms will relate to about 5 !!! Road Angel 7000, theres a thread about it in the GPS section.
Cheers
Danny.

What do you think of this one ? may need a bit of modification but looks ok to me. I think i would want to wrap something around the outside of the wire to give it a bit more protection.
Ebay Power socket (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330159189826&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2Fsearch%2F search.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle% 3D330159189826%26fvi%3D1)

Looks fine, why would you want to wrap plastic insulation around-plastic insulation ?
Next on the list is an ash tray LOL

Ok dont buy one of these. lol
Got the one from ebay for 8.95. It was very poor quality really. I ended up going to maplins, buying mre wire to extend it (bettter quality), recrimping the wires to make them stronger etc, bought a wrap around to give it more mechanical protection. By the time i had finished i might as well have bought all the parts seperatly from Maplin and done the whole thing my self.
I wanted the socket in the nose cone so i ended up making a bit of a wiring harness. To fit it of couse i had to COMPLETELY strip the body work off, no mean feat on the scrambler, and carefully route the wires propley. Took a long time. It was worth it though, works well. Especially with bar mounted Navigator :D :D
