Coming from Middlesborough, i have some epathy with you're statment.

The problem with the north east is that although its great for many outdoor activities and the countryside is beautiful , its got naff all else. I had to move south to get a decent job and be able to walk to the bank without getting robbed, or go to the pictures without getting mugged !!!!!, (and to avoid my ex-wife) :D

First thing i noticed moving to the south was the cars, very few old bangers in the south, in the boro, theres thousends of them..... al nicked as well !!!!
Had my car nicked FOUR time in a year living there.

So as much as a Love my home town, i gotta say theres more going on in the south and better quality of life, as long as you dont mind working, which lets face it a lot of the chavs in the Boro dont wanna do.
