Do any of you Guys have/use any PMR radios. I carry a couple when we go out riding for emergancies.
It could be good for us all to have one to help communicate when we are out in big group and use a single channel to chat.
To be useful when riding though you really need to have a headset .
Heres some info about them
PMR 446 Radios (http://www.kcb.co.uk/microtalk/index.htm)
Got mine in the states a few years back so they are not strictly legal for the uk. Uk ones cost about £30 up to £150.
Radios from Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_ss_w_h_/203-5879413-8843101?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pmr+radio)
I might buy a new one with a headset.

Sorry to point this out Danny, but if you are carrying both the walkie talkies then the only person you can talk to is yourself LOL ;)
I did not know you had them .
Even if I race ahead you will still catch up with me at the first bad rut :o

I noticed that on Ebay you can get 5w handhelds that work on PMR channels. To legally use these you need a radio ham licencse i think, *looks round nervously*, however they would be a lot better than the standard PMR as they operates on only 500MW. Basically, you could still talk to other PMR sets, as they use the same channels but you would have a lot more range and signal strength. :)
On sale on ebay form a Hong Kong shop for import to the UK . I dont think its illegal to buy and import these, but your supposed to have a radio license to operate them.

the radio law is a complex thing and one thing i am not familier with, but i think that my radios are license exempt, i think?
i can not pick up police signals but did one day pick up a plains radio freq!:cool::D
if you are getting stuff imported from ebay they have to go through costums and they will prob take them of the buyer if they have no license
sorry will have to delay photo's

Considering how many parcels move though customs every day, I think its unlikley that they are going to contact people and ask to see a radio license before passing it through.

nice, but if you are useing them for quadding you do not want any thing with too many buttons as they are going to get covered in sh*t and water and may get the button's caught with cloths, nice though:cool::cool:
give me a bell if you want a different set to them.

if they come with a case, come to think about it they might be ok?
buy a cheap set from asda (£40-£50) and see how useful they are before splashing out loads of money.

Why not get a headset for your mobile phone? You all have a mobile, just buy a headset that has an ear piece & microphone with a noise reducer & has a push to answer/cancel button that is waterproof, their cheap to buy and work well, only £19.99 + p&p :)

Mobile Phone are of course essential when your out.
When you out in a group though something that has 'push to talk' capability is a lot easier to use that having to dial everytime. It has to be said that 2-way radios are not essential for most activites, but they can make things easier especially on longer trips, or places that may have no network coverage. Whe we were out the other week i was thinking that that having radio comms between the front and back or the group is a great idea, a way of keeping the faster and slower riders in touch as to were everyone is and were they have to go.
And of course....... , i admit it... i find radios fun.
Signing out rubber duck.
