Does anyone buy the proper Polaris oil changing kits, or does everyone just buy oil as usual ?
My dealer has advised me just to use the official kits during the warrenty period as Polaris have been known to not honour the warrenty if you dont (that was my interpretaion of the converstation lol) .
Thankfully the scramber just needs doing every 25 hours. Others have to have a change every 10.

I do both, sometimes I buy the service kit so I get the o ring, washers and a can of chain lube. But at £33 a time, so I also use another guy for oil and filters. I can get enough oil and filters to do two service's for less than one service pack.

Yer just being cheap saving a few pounds when you've just spent quite a few more pounds on the bike, to then put the wrong or inferior stuff in and compromise you valued investment, false economy in the long run. Why by a machine of a certain quality to then go and put cheap stuff in it,
Here are the Scrambler service intervals
25 hours, 1 month or 250 miles - Brake in oil change
then every
100 hours, 6 months or 1000 miles - engine oil/oil filter change
BUT ( and its a BIG BUTT!) this is based on average user conditions ie speeds approx 10 MPH.
If vehicle is subject to severe use, reduce service intervals by 50%.
Which, when its two quarts of oil @ approx 8 quid a quart and 7 quid a filter is not a grand amount to lavish on your beloved (i mean the bike:rolleyes:), every 3 months is it?

Thanks for that info Jake, its good to have.
I dont know where they get this average 10MPH from... I guess that might be right if they are just going to be used on a farm everyday.
They aint been riding with Me... (*scratch that*), Redpred and NJK thats for sure.
Manufacturers seem to cover themselves with conservative use predictions. I noticed a few things in the Polaris handbook that i didnt think was realistic usage.
What we are missing in berkshire is those lush canadian forests obviously, where 10mph is average.

So are you saying that Silkolene comp4 and a Pred oil filter are inferior products?

I did my first break in oil and filter at 100 miles, have done 600 miles since then and am changing the oil again this weekend, I think that considering the fact that quads rev to possibly a maximum of 6500 rpm (which is half the revs of most bikes hence a lot less frictional wear) that to change the oil at 10 hours is a bit too often, that would be every week which would cost a small fortune .
I spoke to a Polaris dealer who changes the Predators oil at 1000 miles but I monitor the condition of my oil by wiping the dipstick on a piece of kitchen roll and noting the colour, viscosity and using a magnet to check for any metal present in the oil (fine particles etc) .
It seems ok after 500 miles so will do it at that interval, obviously when I have beaten Danny into the dust again then the intervals will be more frequent LOL .
NJK, where do you get your oil from ?

The kit is £31 which includes 3 quarts of Polaris PS4 oil, an oil filter, an oil filter seal and a can of chain lube, it works out expensive because you can get the oil filters for £4 each and the oil is £6.50 a bottle, when you do the oil change you need 2.25 quarts so you will have some oil left, it is expensive to buy the kit each time as you are spending £7 on a can of chain lube which lasts a long time .
I get my oil from Berrys and the filters from Rafferty Newman, now Warrior has a Pred we will get our oil and filters at the same time and do the oil changes at the same time .
I think NJK uses Silkolene oil PS4 .
