I have finally managed to get a winch plate for the scrambler from the USA. It cost more in postage than it actually did for the plate.

Now i need to buy a winch. Those that have/used winches, do you know what models you have ?

I was thinking of a WARN RT25, rated for 2500lb. I dont want anything thats rediculouly big.

You cant really go wrong with a Warn winch, Ant & Rob both have them & they deffo do the job.

I had a cheapy winch fitted, which is fine as I only use it to pull the quad up the ramps in to the back of the van as I dont like riding up after 2 dodgy life threatening experiences!!

Does this mean you will now brave Binstead Swamp, to look for the rarest of rare swamp butterflies??

a winch is an extremely handy thing to have on a quad (when there's somewere to attach it too!!) i had a cheapy too but the electrics have gone in it so i am going to give a superwinch ago next to see what they are like.

I have the WARN 2500lb version and its got me out of several sticky situations just fine. I wouldnt go smaller. Can Am now fits the WARN 3000lb model standard, so maybe worth considerring if only a few quid more.

Those of you who have the Warn 25 (2500 pounds), what is the Amp/hr rating of your battery ?

The winch spec rcommends 12 amp/hr minium ! Seems a lot for a quad.

Never mind,

My battery is rated at 14 amp/hr

All depends on how far you need to pull yourself out. No problems if you just need to pull the quad out of a hole but if your in the middle of the binstead swamp and need to pull quad and 1/2 a ton of swamp material about 50 yards then the winch uses more amps than can be put back into the battery. Normal use no problems. Some people in America have 2 batteries for this very reason.

Hello Trevor, hope you are having a good time out there .
The Binsted swamp is pretty extreme, we must have been there over an hour trying to get you out, your winch certainly proved its worth that day !!!
It was very difficult just to walk in that bog :D
