Homologated Polaris Scrambler quadricycles have the foot brake operating both front and rear circuits, and the left hand brake lever operates as a rear handbrake (hydraulic (this has been discussed before))

Non homologated scrambers use the left hand lever for all circuits and the foot pedal is a scondary backup system. This is a far more sensible system and I am considering converting my machine back to this.

I am concerned that this may be regarded as a MOT failure. Does anyone have any experiance or knowlege in this area.

Cheers

the only problem with having the foot brake system is who ever at Polaris designed the slave cylinders did a poor job, more often then not the foot brakes don't even work, way to much pressure for the cylinder to hold up to, it has tiny discs with small holes in them to build pressure, often times people experience failure due to the valving blowing the seals out. Polaris needs to go back to the drawing board and get it fixed, i cant tell you how many times people have complained about this very problem, some people have modded a honda quad brake cylinder to their machines with great success.

The Brake compnonets on the EU homologated version are completely different to that on the US/Canadian version.

The standard bikes get shipped to italy and then are made EU road legal which involves stripping them down, rebuilding the braking and other system. You can tell which parts are changed -- they use metric measurments rather than imperial.

Damn EU laws.

Im currently getting a dealer to look at putting some new front calipers on the front do provide a dual circuit system.

What makes this worse is the lack of any engine braking on the scrambler.

Ive been told it will cost £370 to get it added.

Danny, I still think it would be a good idea to try and make an adaptor to fix to your brake pedal to make brake operation easier and safer for you .

alot of guys here in the US are doing a split brake mod which they add a right hand lever on the bars for controlling the rear brake instead of the foot pedal, these foot pedal cylinders blow out all the time, being that the cylinders are so poorly designed.

do you know if your machine has the EBS secondary clutch? this keeps the clutch backshift engaged and will allow for engine braking, alot of the machines polaris put out only ran non-ebs, when coasting the clutch disengages and acts like it is in neutral, ebs makes a world of difference.
