Well thought I would have a go at writing a review on this little charmer of a quad.
When i first set out to buy a quad after owning land rovers for 10 years!! I made a bit of a wish list in what i needed from a quad and these were.
250cc (cus it was my first quad)
Front and rear racks
Road legal
Solidly built as I spend most of my life on the plains
Good on fuel
Nice riding position
Easy controls.........
So I set about looking at all sorts of quads including the chinky poo stuff and I was on a strict budget of £1800 so I never in a while thought I would get a Honda, anyhow chance would have in the next village down an old friend was selling his which was a 2005 model he originally wanted 2k but we came to a deal for £1850 which got me this low mileage mint quad.
First impressions.
My first impression of the bike was not to big or small but just about right, when I first sat on the quad I was comfortable straight away and everything was easily in reach, plus it has a good digital display showing you your speed, your trip, a clock, the only thing that lets it down is that it has no fuel gauge or that you can't change the speed over to MPH. Also the road legal side of things has been done professionally and to a very high standard with all switches in the right place including hazards parking lights main and dip beam plus trailer socket which will prove handy I think sooner or later.
On the left hand side on the Handlebars you have the ES (electric gear shift) which bloody brilliant so easy to get on with and just perfect to change with your thumb. There is also plenty of storage on the quad too with front and rear racks and handy tool bin mounted inside the rear brake light and also under the seat are some tools strapped in there.
First ride
My first ride on the quad was nervous time for me because I had not ridden one in a year or so and the last time i did it was in a pretty horrible place in sandy conditions:faint: so I was struggling to remember to how you should ride them, but by the time I had got up my road and heading towards the plains it had all come back to me!! But I also put this down to the quad being so easy to ride. The thing you notice straight off on the quad is how well it handles on the road infact it can handle to well and I don't mean speed wise its when you go to corner it's like it wants to do it with out any force so I had to adjust myself for that other wise I could easily end up on the wrong side of the road!!! After half an hour I had this bike sussed. I found the gear changing you could do with out thinking about it and finding the controls took no though at all. The only problem I came across while I was out was I ran out of fuel:o I was enjoying myself so much that I forgot to look in the tank!! now hence why I carry two cans of fuel everywhere loll. All in all this was and is an easy quad to ride and get along with.
Sticky stuff
My first proper outing in the mud with this quad was Salisbury plain with Denviks and he was driving a landy the pooftah!! It was a wet windy and bloody cold evening but i was smiling all the way. As soon as i hit my first test of mud i felt confident the quad was up to the job and it was she pulled me through with no problems at all even when bombing through puddles it was easy and did not splutter once, after riding it for 4hrs and arriving home i was still pretty fresh and not aching and i had been riding it hard.
The next time out was this Sunday just passed and that’s when den came out with his quad, so i decided to take us on a pretty hard route to try and challenge us both and the quads. The first lane was pretty overgrown and loads or ruts around infact we had to lean so much to keep the quads on the ground but once again the Honda just got on with it nice and balanced even with twin front and rear bags full of my kit she pulled well.
The next few lanes were mainly really sticky mud with a fair few puddles to drop in and out off to which she never got stuck once. After a while we came across a lane that was really badly rutted by tractor tyres and at several points we got grounded but with the Honda being so light we just picked it up and put on a another heading and carried on our merry way and to be honest I enjoyed the fact we got stuck like that it meant a bit of head scratching as we were going along and made things a bit more technical. After that lane we came across a bit of a gully were I made a mistake and found myself being thrown off the quad (much to dens delight) but im just glad my quad is not a big 500cc foreman as I managed to stop the quad landing on me by stopping it with my leg until den rescued me. So that was my second proper outing and all I can say is the quad was a joy to ride and so easy.
Impressions
Well with it being a Honda i was expecting it to be good but not this good, it never fails me and takes what ever i can throw at it, so easy to maintain too. I would happily recommend this for a first quad if you were after the utility style. She may not be the fastest quad on the road but she will reach 48mph happily and carry all your kit you require for a long trip.
The only bad things are the Crappy standard tyres and the fact it does not have fuel gauge but these are only minor things all in all good quad and I can't see me straying away from Honda either.
Sorry if my spelling and grammar is poo but any questions about this quad please ask or if there is a specific picture you would like then just ask.
