POLICE QUAD BIKE ESCORT FOR CHARITY QUAD BIKE TEAM
Two police officers on marked police quad bikes will escort a group of four quad bikes through Northamptonshire this weekend during a team’s charity quad bike ride from Leeds to Madrid.
On Saturday (Aug 4), four men (driving) and one boy (passenger) from the north of England will be starting their mammoth nine-day 2,600 mile ride on four quad bikes in aid of the Candlelighters charity.
The Candlelighters charity is a fund for children who are suffering from malignant diseases or severe blood diseases who are being treated at the Yorkshire paediatric oncology and haematology unit at St James Hospital in Leeds.
The riders are undertaking the trip in memory of four-year-old Laura Hart who died on 6 April this year – her Dad, Allen Hart, from West Yorkshire, will be one of riders.
Nigel Bateman, from North Yorkshire, who will be accompanied on the trip by his 12 year old son, John, said: “The Candlelighters charity is very close to our hearts and all the money we raise will be donated to the charity. So far we have raised more than £4,600 and we are continuing to appeal for people to sponsor us or make donations.
“We believe this trip will be the first of its kind with my 12 year old John as the youngest participant.
“We will travel from Leeds to Madrid, travelling down to the Channel Tunnel on to Paris through into Spain arrive at Madrid then back. We hope to do the 2,600 mile round trip in 9 days, all on quad bikes.
“We are really thrilled that Northamptonshire Police has kindly agreed to escort us through Northamptonshire on police quad bikes.”
Northamptonshire Police Countryside Liaison Officer, PC Glynne Malkin, who has arranged for the quad bike escort, said: “We are more than happy to be meeting the quad bikers and escorting them through our county on police quad bikes, and hope they raise a lot of money for their very worthy cause.”
The quad bikers are: Nigel and John Bateman, from North Yorkshire, Steven Potts, from Manchester, Tim Clarke and Allen Hart, from West Yorkshire.
